Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of a man in south Roswell
ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the shooting of a Roswell man outside a home.
Roswell police say 35-year-old Jesus Arreola is being held without bond at the Chaves County Detention Center while awaiting arraignment.
They say Arreola was taken into custody shortly after Wednesday night’s shooting.
Police say Arreola is from Portales but has been recently living in Roswell.
Officers were called to the scene about 11:35 p.m. and found 32-year-old Johnny Fleming lying in the front yard of his south Roswell home with multiple gunshot wounds.
He later died at a hospital.
Police say Arreola surrendered after a brief standoff with officers and Chaves County Sheriff’s deputies who surrounded his car.
A possible motive for the fatal shooting isn’t immediately known.
