Four BD schools receive honor
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has chosen Lincoln, Jefferson, South Beaver Dam and Wilson Elementary Schools in Beaver Dam as Wisconsin Schools of Recognition for their academic achievement in the areas of reading and math.
“The Beaver Dam Unified School District continues to be an exciting and rewarding environment in which to grow, learn, and work as our students, staff, and parents continue to demonstrate why our schools are destinations for excellence, for every student, every day,” superintendent Steve Vessey said. “Beaver Dam Unified School District students and staff continue to lead the way in student growth and academic achievement in the state of Wisconsin.”
Only schools identified as Title I schools are deemed eligible for Wisconsin Schools of Recognition. For the second year in a row, all Beaver Dam Unified School District elementary schools eligible for this distinction are recognized. Wisconsin Schools of Recognition are acknowledged for their exemplary academic achievement through rigorous programming and attention to individual student needs. Student achievement in reading and mathematics at the award winning schools is in the top 25 percent of schools from similarly sized districts, grade configurations, and demographics. Lincoln, Jefferson, South Beaver Dam and Wilson Elementary Schools are four of only 145 elementary schools that are recognized by the state. South Beaver Dam Elementary School is recognized as a school of High Progress and a Beating the Odds School; Wilson Elementary School is recognized as a Wisconsin School of High Achievement, and Jefferson and Lincoln Schools are recognized as Beating the Odds Schools for high achievement in math and reading.
Academic successes at all schools in the Beaver Dam Unified School District is reflective of the hard work and dedication by all district staff, students, and parents.
The Beaver Dam Unified School District has received 21 Wisconsin School of Recognition honors since 2010.
Lincoln, Jefferson, Wilson and South Beaver Dam Elementary Schools will be recognized at a ceremony May 1 at the Wisconsin State Capitol.
