Rodeo City beats Rolling Hills 200-184 in roller derby bout
The Rodeo City Rollergirls beat the Rolling Hills Derby Dames 200-184 on Friday night in Pullman.
Rodeo City took an early lead in the bout, but Rolling Hills trailed close behind.
Before the final jam started, the score was 186-180 with Rodeo in the lead. Rodeo’s jammer Kayla Lyon, known as Slaybretooth Tiger, dug deep and pushed through the pack four times to secure the win with a 14-point jam, while Rodeo’s blockers held Rolling Hills’ jammer to only four points.
Skater Dovie Sigle, known as Demolition Dovie, said the team’s walls were strong, which contributed to the win.
“Everything that we’ve been working on, especially with the newer gals, came together,” she said. “We were listening to each other and communicating with each other for sure. Our jammers were staying in the middle for the most part and being safe when they came back in.”
Rodeo City debuted two new skaters: NoMerci, Marci Hanson, and Ms. Buzzkill, Nikki Buzzell.
“It was really exciting, really thrilling and chaotic, but I loved every second of it,” said Nikki Buzzell.
Genevieve Sigle-Hall, known on the track as Sheso Sarcastic, is also a new addition to the team, as she graduated from the Rodeo City Junior Rollers, which is for kids from ages 10-17.
The Rodeo City Rollergirls play next at 5 p.m. May 6 at Ellensburg High School against the Avalanche City Roller Girls. For more information, visit www.rodeocityrollergirls.com.
