Addiction treatment home for girls closes

April 6, 2019

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts’ only residential addiction treatment center for adolescent girls has been closed.

The Telegram & Gazette reports the Highland Grace House in Worcester was shuttered earlier this week by its parent organization, Community Healthlink.

The organization, which is part of UMass Memorial Health Care, says 12-bed program for teen girls was underutilized, making it financially unsustainable.

Sarah Loy, a spokeswoman for Community Healthlink, says the voluntary nature of the program made it challenging to keep the home full.

The move comes a year after Community Healthlink closed the Burncoat Family Center residential treatment program for children with serious emotional disorders.

Loy says the Community Healthlink is committed to helping find the state at Highland Grace House other positions in the organization.
