Brunswick baseball team routs St. Luke’s
Using an 18-run, 13-hit attack, the Brunswick School baseball team cruised past host St. Luke’s School, 18-0, Tuesday — a victory marking coach Johnny Montanez’s 100th with the Bruins.
Montanez’s career record with Brunswick is 100-30-1.
Ahead 1-0, the Bruins added four more runs in the third inning, which was keyed by Aaron Sabato’s 2-run home run. Ethan Hynes’ two-run single in the fourth inning gave Brunswick a commanding 7-0 lead.
Brunswick scored 10 runs in the seventh inning, sending 15 batters to the plate. Jake Hyde hit a pair of run-scoring singles, Bobby Carangelo added an RBI double and J.D. Sprks contributed a run scoring single in the big inning.
Joseph Henry also highlighted the seventh inning with a two-run single. Charlie Sealy earned the win for the Bruins, striking out six batters, while yielding two hits.
Nick Mosher and Mike Beninati each pitched one scoreless inning of relief. Trystan Sarcone had three hits, including a double, and scored five runs for the victors. Sabato added a single, along with his home run and drew three walks. he also scored four runs. Brunswick, which is 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in FAA play, hosts league rival Rye Country Day School on Friday.
