March 27, 2001

EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) _ Colorado assistant David Moe, son of former Denver Nuggets coach Doug Moe, was hired Tuesday as the basketball coach of Emporia State.

Moe replaces Marc Comstock at the Division II school. Comstock’s contract was not renewed after a season in which the Hornets finished 9-17 (3-15 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association).

``I’ve prepared my whole life to become a head basketball coach,″ Moe said.

The 37-year-old Moe has spent 13 years as an assistant, starting as a graduate assistant on the national championship 1987-88 Kansas team, and going on to Texas Tech and the Philadelphia 76ers.

``I recognize that he is a bright, young coach who is ready to run his own program _ and has been for quite some time,″ Buffaloes coach Ricardo Patton said.
