Hearing set for housing proposal
A proposed 60-unit senior housing option on the west side of Auburn Road south of Dupont Road will have a public hearing Monday before the Fort Wayne Plan Commission.
Called ASH Senior Homes at Auburn Road, the development at 9751 Auburn Road lies on a narrow 6.759-acre strip north of the Woodland Lake single-family-home neighborhood. The developer is listed as ASH Holding Co. with an address at a mailbox facility at 921 E. Dupont Road in Fort Wayne. State corporation records list the owner and agent as Al W. Hamed.
ASH Holding is not affiliated with Ash Holdings LLC, Ash Brokerage or other entities associated with Tim Ash, said Tony Brita, vice president and chief operating officer of Ash Crest of Fort Wayne, an umbrella group for Ash businesses.
According to the application, the developer is seeking a rezoning from agricultural/estates to multiple-family residential and approval of a primary development plan.
The site plan shows seven one-story buildings with eight to 12 side-by-side units for a total of 71,026 square feet. The units have garages and shared driveways.
No individual property lines are shown, as is usually the case with rental units.
The development is accessed from Auburn Road, although there is the possibility for a stub street connection on its north side.
The developer also seeks a waiver of setback limits for a corner property.
The developer states if the waiver is not granted, the project would lose 10 percent of its units but does not state whether that would affect the project’s financial viability.
The hearing will take place at 6 p.m. in Room 35 of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St.
