CHRIS BROWN FACES CHARGES FOR PET MONKEY

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Brown’s Instagram picture of his daughter cuddling with a monkey led to charges being filed against him last week. The Los Angeles city attorney’s office confirms Brown was charged with two counts of having a capuchin monkey without a license. Last January, he posted a photo of his three-year-old daughter, Royalty, with the monkey, named Fiji. California fish and wildlife agents seized it soon after. Brown will be arraigned Feb. 6. His lawyer could not be reached for comment.

PRETTY RICKY’S PLEASURE P IS ARRESTED

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) —Pleasure P of the group Pretty Ricky has been arrested for DUI in Miami Beach. Police say Pleasure P, AKA Marcus Ramone Cooper, was driving more than 100 miles per hour on Friday when he was stopped. The report says he “reeked of alcohol” and refused sobriety tests. Breath tests showed Cooper’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit in Florida. He told officers he was celebrating his birthday and asked them to call his attorney, as well as Flo Rida (RY’-dah) and Shaquille O’Neal. Cooper was charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and resisting arrest. He was released from jail on Friday. His representatives did not return a request for comment.

LAWYER: ARETHA FRANKLIN’S ESTATE IS PAYING TAXES

DETROIT (AP) — An attorney for Aretha Franklin’s estate says the tax collectors are getting their share of what they’re owed. David Bennett says Franklin’s estate has paid at least $3 million in back taxes since she died in August. Bennett says the estate has some disputes with the IRS over what counts as her income, and the IRS is questioning Franklin’s expenses. He says the IRS is auditing the estate. Bennett says the estate has also paid taxes to the state of Michigan and other jurisdictions. Franklin left no will. She was not married and had four sons.

CHAKA KHAN: WHAT’S A GRAND MARSHAL?

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Chaka Khan admits she got confused about what being the grand marshal of the Rose Bowl parade means. Khan says when she found out she was named grand marshal, she thought she’d be carrying a baton and marching in boots to lead the whole parade. Khan will open the parade, but with a performance, not with marching. She will sing her hit “I Feel For You,” as well as a new song, “Hello Happiness.” She’ll also ride in the parade in a convertible. The Rose Bowl Parade is tomorrow morning on multiple broadcast outlets.

NICK MASON OF PINK FLOYD, MIKE PETERS OF THE ALARM GET ROYAL HONORS

LONDON (AP) — Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has been named to the British Queen’s New Year’s honors list. He’s been named a CBE -- Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. It’s for his services to music. It’s a step below knighthood. Mike Peters of The Alarm will be honored as well, but for his cancer charity work rather than his music. Peters will be awarded an MBE - Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, two steps below CBE. Michael Palin, Twiggy, Thandie (TAN’-dee) Newton, Christopher Nolan and “Downton Abbey” actor Jim Carter also were named to the list.

JIMI HENDRIX POST OFFICE ON THE WAY

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — A bill has been signed into law to rename a post office after Jimi Hendrix. The Seattle Times reports Renton Highlands Post Office in Renton, Washington, will be renamed the James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix Post Office. It’s less than a mile from where Hendrix is buried.

TV PRODUCER SAYS COL. TOM PARKER WANTED ELVIS ’68 COMEBACK SPECIAL TO BE ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Elvis Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special originally was conceived as a holiday program, according to the TV producer behind it. Steve Binder (BIHN’-der) says Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker, wanted to push holiday music, but Binder talked him out of it. The original special ran in December and had one Christmas song, “Blue Christmas.” Binder recalls Presley asking him what he thought of his career and Binder’s reply was, “I think it’s in the toilet.” Presley said, “Well, finally somebody’s talking straight to me.” Even though the special was a turning point for Presley, Binder figured it would never be seen again. Blake Shelton will host an all-star tribute to the special on NBC in February.

21 SAVAGE HITS NUMBER ONE WITH “I AM I WAS”; NAT “KING” COLE HITS TOP TEN

LOS ANGELES (AP) — 21 Savage has scored his first number-one album. “I Am I Was” moved 131,000 units in its first week of release. That puts it on top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is second with “Hoodie SZN.” Michael Buble’s (boo-BLAYZ) “Christmas” is number three, followed by the “A Star Is Born” soundtrack at fourth and “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack in fifth. And here’s a name you don’t see much in top album sales anymore: Nat “King” Cole. His album “The Christmas Song” is number seven this week, the first time Cole has had an album in the top ten since 1965.

WOODSTOCK SITE PLANS 50th ANNIVERSARY SHOW

BETHEL, N.Y. (AP) — A three-day music festival will be held at the site of Woodstock to mark the 50th anniversary of the concert. The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York, says the event will be staged Aug. 16-18. Organizers say the lineup will include “prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades.” Performers will be announced soon. The original Woodstock drew more than 400,000 people Aug.15-17, 1969.
