Ukulele group forms, welcomes all
A new group has formed in Ludington to play and learn ukulele together, welcoming musicians of all experience levels.
The group met for its first time on Wednesday afternoon at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) in the main gallery space.
The musical jam session started off simple, with an instruction time for beginner-level ukulele players from 1 to 1:30 p.m., led by the group’s organizer, Meredith Hanson. They learned and practiced a few chords together, then went on to play some two-chord songs like “Clementine” and “Down in the Valley.”
Then the rest of the group, the “experienced” players, arrived — which means they can already play four chords. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the songs got progressively more challenging, with four- or five-chord songs, like “Hey, Good Lookin’” and “I’m a Believer.”
