Traditions continue with Tip-Off Classic and Holiday Festival basketball tournaments
Two local high school basketball traditions will be carried on this holiday season as The 17th-annual News-Times Greater Danbury Tip-Off Classic boys tournament and 12th-annual News-Times Greater Danbury Holiday Festival girls tournament are both on the schedule in the coming weeks.
The boys tournament will once again feature Abbott Tech, Bethel, Immaculate and Danbury, and will be held Monday and Wednesday at Immaculate. In Monday’s first round, Abbott Tech will play Bethel at 6 p.m. and Danbury will play Immaculate at 8 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s championship game, which Danbury won behind 20 points from tournament MVP Scott Nesbitt. The consolation and championship games are slated for Wednesday at 6 and 8 p.m.
The girls tournament will once again include Danbury, Bristol Eastern, New Fairfield and New Milford and will be held Dec. 26 and 28 at the Danbury War Memorial. In the first round on the 26th, Danbury will face Bristol Eastern at 6 p.m. and New Fairfield will play New Milford at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be held at 6 and 8 p.m. on the 28th. New Fairfield won last year’s championship over Danbury, led by tournament MVP Bridget Zima’s 19 points.
