ME: Missing hiker took his own life
The man state police spent hours trying to find during a snow and sleet storm Wednesday had taken his own life, according to the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner.
Trevor French, 58, was reported missing late Monday afternoon after he told family members he was going for a walk on trails in East Granby and never returned. State police and local firefighters conducted a search of the area into the evening but suspended their operation by 11 p.m., state police said.
The search was resumed Tuesday as a storm was coming in with several teams including state troopers, area police and urban search and rescue teams.
The search was concluded by Tuesday afternoon after the body of a male was found in the area. State police could not confirm Tuesday afternoon that the deceased male was French and said an autopsy would be conducted Wednesday.
A representative from the medical examiner’s office confirmed after an autopsy Wednesday that the man found was French and that he died by asphyxiation which he intended.
