Baby, It’s Cold Outside — Warm Up With Cocktails All Winter Long

With the holiday hustle and bustle behind us and colder temperatures driving us indoors, January makes the perfect time to curl up under a blanket by the fire and relax. Whip up one of these winter cocktails from Pennsylvania’s Fine Wine & Good Spirits, and you’ll find yourself even warmer — inside and out.

Bailey’s Peppermint Cream

1 1/2 ounces Bailey’s Irish Cream

4 ounces hot chocolate

Fresh whipped cream

Candy canes, crushed (optional)

Mini marshmallows (optional)

Mint leaf

Make the hot chocolate according to directions on packet.


Combine the first two ingredients into a coffee mug. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle crushed candy canes or mini marshmallows on top, if desired.

Barrel Racer

2 ounces Pendleton Canadian Whisky

5 ounces coffee

Milk, to taste

Sugar, to taste

1 mini powdered doughnut (optional)

Combine first four ingredients in a heat-safe mug; stir gently. Garnish with a skewered mini powdered doughnut, if desired.

Bulleit Hot Toddy

1 1/4 ounces Bulleit Bourbon or Rye

1 teaspoon fine-grain sugar

2 small cloves

1 1/2 ounces boiling water

Combine all ingredients in a mug; stir and serve.

Hot Buttered Bourbon

2 1/2 ounces Evan Williams Bourbon

6 ounces apple cider

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon butter

1 dash nutmeg

Heat first three ingredients in a small pan. Pour into a heat-safe mug and add cinnamon stick and butter; stir gently and garnish with nutmeg.

Chocolate-Covered Raspberry

1 1/2 ounces Svedka Raspberry Vodka

8 ounces hot chocolate

Whipped cream

Fresh raspberries

Chocolate shavings

Combine the first two ingredients in a heat-safe mug. Garnish with whipped cream, raspberries and chocolate shavings.

Hot Peppermint Patty

1 ounce Rumple Minze

½ ounce dark crème de cacao

6 ounces hot chocolate

1 teaspoon green crème de menthe

Whipped cream

Combine the first three ingredients in a heat-safe mug; stir gently. Top with whipped cream, and drizzle with green crème de menthe.


Spiced Apple “Walking” Whiskey

2 apples, peeled and quartered

2 tablespoon raw, organic honey

1/4 orange, peeled

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 cups hot water

1 cup Johnnie Walker Red or Black

Orange slice

Cinnamon stick

In a blender or food processor, add first six ingredients (in the order listed). Blend on high for a minimum of 3 minutes (4 to 5 minutes for food processors).

Pour in a large mug with the Johnnie Walker. Garnish with an orange slice, and a cinnamon stick.

Warm Winter Mulled Wine

Serves six

1 (750 mL) bottle Apothic Red

3 ounces E&J Apple Brandy

3 tablespoons DeKuyper Triple Sec

1 ounce maple syrup

1/2 cup cranberries

1 Red Delicious apple, cut into rings

1 cinnamon stick, broken

1 star anise

1 strip lemon peel

1 strip orange peel

3 cardamom seeds

Rosemary sprigs (optional)

Bundle the last five ingredients in a tea diffuser or cheesecloth and place into a medium pot. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a low simmer over medium heat.

Serve in heat-safe mugs and garnish with 2 or 3 cranberries and a sprig of rosemary, if desired.

Winter White Mulled Wine

2 (750 mL) bottles Natura Organic Chardonnay

2 cups light apple cider

5 ounces elderflower liqueur

2 tablespoons lemon zest

4 to 5 tablespoons caster sugar

2 cinnamon sticks

1 vanilla bean pod, split

Combine all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a low simmer for at least 30 minutes. Serve in heat-safe mugs.
