Fox Lake man enters plea after accused of striking officer
JUNEAU – A 27-year-old Fox Lake man had a not guilty plea entered for him Wednesday on charges of striking a Beaver Dam Police Officer in the nose.
Trevell D. Cowan faces a felony count of battery to a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor counts of obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cowan stood mute before Dodge County Circuit Court Judge Martin DeVries and had the plea entered on his behalf. He has a jury trial scheduled on Feb. 15.
According to the criminal complaint, Beaver Dam Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle Cowan was driving on Nov. 14 at 1:40 a.m. for failure to stop at a flashing red light and speeding. The officer observed the car at the intersection of Center and Front streets. Cowan became combative and struck the officer in the nose. He struggled with the officers and engaged them in a foot pursuit. An electronic control device was used to control Cowan and he was placed under arrest.
Drug paraphernalia was found in Cowan’s car.
According to the criminal complaint, Cowan apologized to the officer for punching him in the nose and said that he did it because he wanted to get away.
A telephone scheduling conference is scheduled on Feb. 6.
Cash bail was set at $30,000 by Judge Steven Bauer during a Nov. 15 hearing.
