Banner seasons fall just short for Beecher, Herscher
PEORIA — Neither the Beecher High School softball team or Herscher High School baseball team realized its ultimate goal last weekend, but both can nevertheless be proud of what was accomplished during banner 2018 seasons.
Beecher dropped a 5-2 decision in the Illinois High School Association Class 2A state championship on Saturday, a loss that denied the Bobcats a second straight state championship. A three-run home run by Rockridge in the first inning put Beecher in a hole it couldn’t climb out of. The Bobcats ended the campaign with a 32-3 record.
Meanwhile, Herscher also encountered a tough first inning in the IHSA Class 2A third-place baseball game on Saturday. Tuscola scored three times in the opening frame and never let up in cruising to a 9-0 win. Herscher did claim the fourth-place trophy and ended the season with a 33-9 record.
