Colomonde Chorus begins fall rehearsals
If you find yourself trying to harmonize with songs when listening to music, the Colomonde women’s barbershop chorus might hit just the right notes with you.
The group is beginning its Monday rehearsals on Oct. 1. The vocalists meet at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2170 Havasupai Blvd.
New members are welcome. Dues are $20 annually. The money helps cover the costs of sheet music and performance costume accessories.
“There are no auditions. You pick which part you want to sing and we kind of go from there,” said Toady Dolan, one voice in the 25-member chorus. The women perform without instrumental accompaniment. Instead, they sing four-part harmony a capella.
Women of any age are welcome. Dolan said to expect to have a great time singing with other women while learning about rehearsal techniques, ensemble singing and performance. She noted that the chorus performs 14 to 15 times a year. The Christmas season and Valentine’s Day are the group’s busiest times.
“We visit nursing homes, sing at club meetings, parties and that sort of thing. We don’t have a set rate, but we do accept donations,” Dolan said.
She said the women also meet monthly for lunch.
“We always sing a song or two at these lunches, and everyone (in the restaurant) seems to enjoy that,” she said.
The Colomonde Chorus is now in its 24th year in Lake Havasu City. It is for hire and can provide a list of songs from which to choose, including oldies, Elvis Presley hits and patriotic-themed songs. Their favorite song to sing? “Mood Indigo.”
