Schools: Archbishop Williams girls soccer shuts out Cardinal Spellman

Chigozie Sumani notched four goals for Archbishop Williams (10-1-1) in a 4-0 Catholic Central League win over Cardinal Spellman in a girls soccer matchup yesterday.

In a South Shore League tilt, Maddie Blonde notched a hat trick to propel Rockland (9-2-1) by Mashpee, 4-0, and qualify for the postseason. . . . Lauren Anastos tallied two goals and three assists, and Hannah Duran struck for a hat trick in a 5-1 win for Hull (7-5) over Abington.

In a Hockomock League shootout, Emily Vigeant found the back of the net twice as Mansfield (9-1-1) knocked off Milford, 4-2.

In a Patriot League matchup, Jan Fleming scored two goals as Duxbury (8-1-2) qualified for the postseason with a 5-0 win over Plymouth South.

Boys soccer

Senior Andrew Sullivan doubled the lead with a second half marker as Cohasset (13-0) took a 2-0 decision over Carver to clinch its fourth consecutive South Shore Small title.

Matt Leary completed the shutout in net, helping Sacred Heart take down Holbrook, 2-0 in a Mayflower League contest. . . . Shawn Thorburn posted a hat trick to lead West Bridgewater (10-2-1) past Westport, 5-2.

In the Independent School League, Aidan Farwell had a goal and an assist as Milton Academy (6-1-2) blanked Roxbury Latin, 3-0.

In the Catholic Central League, Archbishop Williams (8-4-1) coasted to a 5-0 shutout of Cardinal Spellman with junior Ryan Hanson recording a pair of goals and Colby Carey notching his first varsity marker. . . . Nolan Perez netted the eventual game-winning goal during the first half as St. Mary’s (12-0) clinched a spot in the state tournament with the 2-1 victory over Austin Prep.

Behind Christian Buckley’s fifth shutout, St. John’s Prep (9-0-2) claimed a Catholic Conference title with a 4-0 win over Xaverian.

In the South Coast Conference, Bourne (5-5-3) got all its offense from Liam Center in a 2-1 win over Fairhaven.

Field hockey

Lucas Crook & Megan Salsinha each netted a pair of goals a piece, as Somerset-Berkley (12-0) remained undefeated with a 5-0 rout of Old Rochester in the South Coast Conference. . . . Senior Carly Lacasse upped her season goal total to 19, potting two markers as Bourne (7-1-2) posted a 5-1 decision over Case.

Keira Semerjian found the back of the net three times and added two helpers to power Lincoln-Sudbury (8-2) to a 5-0 Dual County League win over Newton South.

Casey Thompson posted two goals and two assists as Central Catholic (9-2-1) dismantled Lawrence, 8-0, in Merrimack Valley Conference play. . . . Dana Swartz scored twice and added an assist as North Andover cruised to a 7-0 win over Dracut. . . . Freshman Hanna Medwar led the offensive attack with two goals, propelling Andover (12-0-1) to a 5-1 rout of Chelmsford.


In the Patriot League, Anthony Palmacci shot a 1-over 35 as Whitman-Hanson (8-8) defeated Duxbury for the first time in program history, 232-241.

Girls volleyball

Sydney Phillips had 19 kills to fuel King Philip (12-1) to a 3-1 Hockomock League win over North Attleboro.

In an Old Colony League tilt, eighth grader Teagan James had 26 assists, six digs and five aces as Barnstable (12-0) remained perfect with a 3-0 sweep of Dartmouth.

In a Mayflower League match, Kasey Zaleski led the attack with 11 aces, while Kyla Hansen dished out 13 assists as Blue Hills (10-5) punched their ticket to the Division 3 South tourney with a 3-0 shutout of Diman.

Mikayla Bushell racked up eight kills and Riley Burgess compiled 14 service points for Case (9-4) in a 3-0 win over South Coast Conference foe Wareham.
