House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy said Thursday former Vice President Joseph R. Biden is the “Jeb Bush” of this election cycle because he has “too much to apologize for.”

“I think Biden, no disrespect, is the Jeb Bush of this cycle. I think he could have run at a different time and he would have been the nominee. I think he has too much to apologize for,” the California Republican said Thursday at an Axios event, adding”Bernie Sanders has a much better chance” of winning the nomination due to his well-established base.

Former governor of Florida and presidential candidate Jeb Bush entered the 2016 race with high polling numbers, but he ended up suspending his campaign after a poor showing in the South Carolina primary.

Currently the frontrunner to face President Trump in the 2020 presidential election, Mr. Biden has faced many controversies since he entered the race, including hishandlingof the Anita Hill hearings, allegations ofinvadingpeople’s personal state and a report saying he wouldfinda “middle ground” for climate change.
