FSU Splits Pair with Colonels
The Fitchburg State softball team split a non-conference double header with Curry College on Wednesday at Donna Lee WIthington Memorial Field, taking game one, 9-1, before dropping the nightcap, 8-4.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as junior McKenzie Lambert doubled home senior Melissa DiPhilippo before freshman Olivia Pietersen followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 advantage.
The Falcons extended their margin to seven in the bottom half of the second, highlighted Lambert lacing a two-run double and senior Nicole Sylvester notching an RBI double.
The Green and Gold pushed across two more runs in the fourth as freshman Audrey Johnson connected on an RBI single and junior Mikayla Harnois singled home Pietersen to make the score 9-0.
Curry ended the shutout in the top of the fifth though with sophomore Kiana Lloyd notching an RBI single to bring in freshman Alexis Buckner.
Harnois (8-2) picked up the win for Fitchburg State, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts in five innings.

Fitchburg State opened up a 3-0 margin in the bottom of the first when Pietersen and newcomer Hayley O’Brien registered RBI’s in the frame, but Curry battled back to take a 4-3 edge in the top of the fifth as Newcomb singled down the left field line, while Buckner and freshman Sienna Kulpa followed with RBI knocks.
The Falcons knotted the contest at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth as LeBlanc singled up the middle to bring home senior Maddie Medina. With the score tied at 4-4, the Colonels (10-11) regained the lead for good in the top of the eighth with junior Michaela Colleran ripping a two-run single up the middle, while Newcomb and Buckner added RBIs in the stanza.
Emma Campbell suffered the setback for Fitchburg State, yielding six runs (two earned) on eight hits with two Ks in 3.2 innings of relief.
Fitchburg State (13-7) will host Plymouth State today for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
Falcons baseball game suspended
Fitchburg State’s baseball game at Worcester State was suspended Wednesday evening due to darkness with the score tied 12-12 and headed into extra innings.
The game will be completed at a later date, which is to be determined.
The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Fitchburg State next Tuesday.
Prior to the game’s suspension, the Lancers erased a six-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning before tying the game in the ninth.
Fitchburg State’s Vincent Eramo was 5-for-6 in the contest and Brennan Cuddahy blasted a three-run homer, but no statistics from the game will be considered official by the NCAA until the game’s completion.
FSU athletes honored for sportsmanship
Five Fitchburg State student-athletes were selected to the MASCAC’s 2019 Winter Sportsmanship Team.
Charlie Ollis (men’s basketball), Emily Beauvais (women’s basketball), Ricky Kramer (ice hockey), Nick Sachetta (men’s indoor track and field) and Jenni DeSilvestre (women’s indoor track and field) were all honored. A student-athlete from each MASCAC institution was selected by their respective coach to be placed on the Sportsmanship Team.
