Mike Ballo four shots back after first round of Met Open
Stamford native Mike Ballo Jr. is four shots behind leader Mark McCormick of Suburban Golf Club after the first round of the Metropolitan Golf Association’s 102nd Met Open Championship at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J., Monday.
McCormick shot a 5-under-par 66 and holds a one-shot lead over Stewart Hagestad (Deepdale Golf Club) after the opening round of the three-round tournament. Danny Balin of Westchester Country Club shot a 3-under 68 and is two shots off the pace, along with Max Buckley (Westchester Country Club), Dawson Jones (Jumping Brook Country Club) and Peter Kim (Royce Brook Golf Club).
Ballo (Winged Foot Golf Club) carded a 1-under 70, shooting an even-par 36 on the front nine and 1-under 34 on the back. He registered three birdies and parred 13 holes. His brother Peter Ballo (Old Oaks Country Club) shot an even-par 71. Richard Dowling (Golf Performance Center) shot a 1-over 72, while Patrick Clark of Wee Burn Country Club carded a 71.
Greenwich’s David Pastore shot a 3-over 74 in the first round, while his brother Paul finished with a 77.
