Needles man allegedly assaults cellmate in Kingman jail
Gaven T. Robel, 25, of Needles, California, was arrested Nov. 20 on charges of assault. Robel was an inmate at Kingman City Jail, and allegedly assaulted his cellmate, Ryan W. Couch, 41, of Kingman.
According to deputies, Robel was in jail on charges of fraudulent schemes, forgery and a narcotic drug violation. Couch was in jail on charges of violating probation. The men were housed in the same cell for four days prior to the alleged assault, in a medium security portion of the jail.
Deputies say other inmates in the housing unit alerted detention staff when the altercation began, and multiple officers were dispatched to the cell to intervene. Couch was removed from the cell and received treatment by jail medical staff before being transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center, and then flown to Las Vegas for treatment in reference to head and facial injuries sustained in the alleged assault.
Robel has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, and according to deputies, additional charges could be forthcoming, pending further investigation.
