DEADWOOD — A Spearfish man accused of embezzling funds from a local gas station appeared before 4th Circuit Court Judge Michelle Comer at the Lawrence County Courthouse Thursday.

Seth D. Andrew McFarland, 25, was indicted by a Lawrence County Grand Jury Jan. 24 and charged with one count of grand theft by embezzlement, more than $5,000, but less than $100,000, from Williams Standard Service in Spearfish. The embezzlement is alleged to have occurred during 2017.

Grand theft by embezzlement is a Class 4 felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

During his court appearance, Comer appointed the Lawrence County Public Defender’s Office to represent McFarland and set an arraignment date for Sept. 6.

McFarland is free on $2,000 bond.
