Mustangs open season with a home win

NEEDLES — The first game of the Needles High School Varsity Mustangs ended with a 34-12 win against the River Valley Dust Devils on Aug. 17 on Branigan Field.

The Mustangs came out a little flat in the first quarter which head coach Matt Fromelt attributed to nervous getting the better of the team. The Mustangs were able to get past the slow start and started moving the ball against the Dust Devils defense.

Dawsen Yeager was the quarterback in the first half and in the second half Nathan Parker took over the responsibilities.

The Mustangs defense allowed a total of about 173 yards in the game

The Dust Devils were able to move the ball against the Mustangs defense as they gained 173 yards for the game but the Mustangs defense tightened up and held them out of the end zone a couple of times.

The Mustangs ended with a total of about 319 yards for the game.

The Mustangs travel to take on the Phoenix Christian Football Cougars in the Flagstaff Classic on Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.
