FUN ON THE FOURTH

July 6, 2018 GMT

HURRICANE — It was hot in the Valley on Wednesday, July 4, and the temperatures in the upper 90s were only part of the reason.

The City of Hurricane and Putnam County Parks & Recreation collaborated to create a blowout day of events for locals and visitors to enjoy.

It started early with the Stars and Stripes 5K run/walk at 8 a.m.

From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., there were tons of things happening in Valley Park, from Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course races — with prizes —to live music, food trucks, vendors and more.

The annual parade lined up at 3 p.m. and made its way through downtown Hurricane starting at 4 p.m.

Then it was back to Valley Park for a huge hot dog eating contest with a grand prize of $500.

That was followed by more live music. Fireworks capped off the day.
