Community Art Show winners announced
SPEARFISH — The Matthews Opera House and Arts Center has announced the winners of their annual Community Art Show. Formerly known as the “Winter Art Show,” this was the 40th event of its kind to be hosted by the Matthews.
The Community Art Show Reception on April 18 saw over 100 people in the gallery. Visitors enjoyed refreshments, a cash bar, and time to view the artwork submitted by area locals.
“We are thrilled by the turnout to our reception,” said Heather Evans, gallery manager. “This was a great way to celebrate and recognize the amazing talent in the Spearfish area. Selecting the winners of this year’s show was incredibly difficult.”
The judges for the 40th Community Art Show were Heather Evans, local photographer Heidi Watson, and Quintin Owens, assistant professor at BHSU. Visitors to the gallery during the Community Art Show were also invited to voice their opinion on their favorite art pieces by submitting a vote for People’s Choice.
This popular event was open to any artist, amateur or professional, who wished to participate. The categories were divided by age ranges from kindergarten and under, grade school, middle school, high school, through adults. Show registration was not limited to geographical location.
