University of Akron to host State of the Parties: 2016 and Beyond

AKRON, Ohio - Scholars from throughout the nation will convene to discuss the state of American politics at the seventh State of the Parties: 2016 and Beyond conference, hosted by the University of Akron Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the Hilton Garden Inn Nov. 9-10.

“American politics is in great flux,” said John Green, Bliss Institute director, in a news release. “And some of the country’s best scholars will discuss how and why.”

Conference participants will discuss the current political climate, including the role of political parties in the election of President Donald Trump, campaign finance, partisan polarization, voters and party loyalties and the party nomination processes.

Former Gov. Bob Taft and former Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher will serve as keynote speakers the Nov. 9 dinner at Greystone Hall. A reception and book signing by William L. Hershey and Green, authors of “Mr. Chairman: The Life and Times of Ray C. Bliss” will take place prior to the event, which is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m.
