Falcon Heights to discuss new police contract with Ramsey County
The Falcon Heights City Council will host a listening session Wednesday evening about its new policing contract with the Ramsey County Sheriffs Office.
In July, St. Anthony City Council terminated its policing contract with Falcon Heights in the wake of the fatal shooting of Philando Castile.
Earlier in the day, during a routine appearance at the St. Paul City Council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Jack Serier said that the county has signed an agreement to take over policing of Falcon Heights. Serier said the Sheriffs Office would begin policing the suburb Jan. 1, 2018.
After the meeting, Serier said that he had signed his end of the contract, but that he believed Falcon Heights city officials still had to approve the matter. The Ramsey County Sheriffs Office is under contract to provide law enforcement services to seven cities, including Arden Hills, Gem Lake, Little Canada, North Oaks, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights and White Bear Township.
