Jaguar Cars Ltd. has settled a lawsuit with the Jacksonville Jaguars,
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Jaguar Cars Ltd. has settled a lawsuit with the Jacksonville Jaguars, a new NFL expansion team, over the team’s name and original logo, the team and company said Monday.
Jaguar Cars, a division of the Ford Motor Co., had claimed the name and logo infringed upon its leaping-cat trademarks.
Details of the settlement weren’t disclosed, but Ford Motor Co. will be the official automobile partner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, officials said.
Ford and its divisions, Lincoln-Mercury and Jaguars, will be the exclusive sponsor of the Jaguars in the categories of domestic and foreign automobile and truck manufacturer, retail sales and leasing. The agreement provides for stadium signs, advertising and exclusive broadcast rights.
The team has changed its logo from a leaping cat to a snarling feline.
