Gonzaga-Tennessee: 3 keys to the Volunteers’ 76-73 win over the Bulldogs
Tennessee senior Admiral Schofield took over in crunch time. His banked 3-pointer over Brandon Clarke was particularly deflating for the Zags as the shot gave the Volunteers a 73-71 lead with 1:15 left. He followed that up with a more conventional 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining that proved to be the game-winner.
Schofield scored Tennessee’s last 11 points, including a 3-pointer to break a 73-all tie with 22 seconds remaining. Schofield poured in 25 of his 30 points in the second half to fuel the Volunteers’ comeback victory. The 6-foot-6 wing made 12 of 22 shots, including 6 of 10 3-pointers.
GU’s Brandon Clarke was a defensive force again, registering two steals and swatting three shots, one that will be a candidate for block of the year. Clarke met athletic Vols’ forward Yves Pons at the rim in transition and rejected Pons’ shot. Clarke also finished with nine rebounds.
