FITCHBURG -- A city man was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing a backpack from a fitness center and using several credit cards to make unauthorized purchases, said a Police Department spokesman.
Leon Lorime, 27, of 39 Crestview Lane, was charged with larceny under $1,200, larceny from a building, and improper use of a credit card under $1,200 for the alleged incident, said police Capt. Steven Giannini.
He said that Lorime allegedly entered the locker room area of Boost Fitness on Water Street Friday and took a backpack from one of the lockers.
Using witnesses who saw the alleged theft and surveillance video, police identified Lorime as the suspect, said Giannini.
A short time later, said Giannini, a police officer spotted Lorime walking down Main Street.
After arresting him without incident, many of the items in the backpack were recovered, he said.
However, between the time of the alleged theft, Giannini said, Lorime used the stolen credit cards to make several purchases that totaled approximately $300.
Lorime was to be arraigned in District Court on Tuesday.
