Trump to deliver delayed talk

President Donald Trump will deliver his State of the Union address at 8 p.m. tonight in Washington, D.C. It’s been delayed one week because of the recent government shutdown.

The speech Trump will give is considered his second State of the Union address. Trump did speak before Congress shortly after his inauguration in 2017, but it was not considered a State of the Union Speech.

‘Designated survivor’ won’t be present

The designated survivor is a member of the president’s Cabinet who does not attend the speech and is kept in a secure location in case something catastrophic happens and the president, vice president, speaker of the House and others are incapacitated or killed.

How long will it last?

There is no time limit. Trump’s 2018 speech lasted one hour and 20 minutes, the third longest State of the Union.

Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams will give the Democratic response to the State of the Union address. It will take place immediately after the State of the Union speech.
