Florida Supreme Court orders immediate removal of judge
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Supreme Court is ordering the immediate removal of a sitting circuit judge.
The high court on Monday issued an order to remove Circuit Judge Scott DuPont from the bench by the end of the business day. DuPont is a judge in the 7th judicial circuit which covers the counties of Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia. DuPont is from Putnam County.
The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission had recommended DuPont’s removal due to misconduct. The charges against him included making inaccurate claims against his 2016 campaign opponent. Those claims included contending that his opponent’s wife and daughter had been arrested.
DuPont also said while campaigning that he would find no law unconstitutional.
In court filings, DuPont acknowledged he was careless while campaigning but said he did not know the information was false.
