Alabama man gets life sentence for killing Florida teenager
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — A 22-year-old Alabama man will spend the rest of his life prison for fatally shooting a teenager who prosecutors said came to the aid of a friend during an attempted robbery in the Florida Panhandle.
During a hearing on Tuesday, Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet sent Demarcus Montrel Giddens to prison without the possibility of parole for his part in the almost point-blank shooting of 16-year-old Jason Ian Price in August 2017.
The News Herald reports Giddens was convicted last week of first-degree felony murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors said Giddens and two friends drove to Panama City Beach from Auburn, Alabama, with the intention of robbery. They said Giddens brought an AK-47 with him.
Records show the shooting occurred during a botched drug deal.
