Patti LaBelle and Friends Present ‘Home for the Holidays’
It’s already proving to be a busy holiday season for Philadelphia diva, Patti LaBelle. She performed at the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the second season of her popular cooking show, “Patti LaBelle’s Place,” premiered on the Cooking Channel on Nov. 26, she has a recurring role in the Fox music-drama series, “Star,” and her new Christmas album, “Patti LaBelle and Friends — Home for the Holidays,” is now available in stores and online platforms.
The 14-track compilation features Christmas classics, as well as new music, performed by talented Philadelphia singer/songwriter Vivian Green, “American Idol” season two champion Ruben Studdard, gospel great Tamela Mann, and piano virtuoso, Jamar Jones.
In the opening selection, Green, best known for the bluesy ballad, “Emotional Rollercoaster,” joins pianist Jamar Jones for a jazzy and joyous rendition of “My Favorite Things.” “Don’t Save It All for Christmas Day,” which LaBelle sang at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, is a cautionary tale about spreading love, hope and joy all year long.
Studdard lends his touching tenor to “Your Presence with Me,” and the light-hearted yuletide classic “Let It Snow.”
Anyone who takes on the Mel Tormé masterpiece, “The Christmas Song,” exquisitely performed in the original recording by Nat King Cole, is taking a risk, and I must say that Green’s loud, jazzy interpretation takes away from the innocent warmth and simplicity of this timeless gem. However, a fun and familiar selection is “Christmas Time Is Here,” which almost everyone will recognize from the beloved holiday TV special “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
LaBelle joins forces with vocal powerhouse Tamela Mann for the sweeping “Jesus King!” followed by Studdard’s pure and poignant delivery of “Avé Maria.”
Highlighting the many sights, sounds, sensations and emotions of Christmas, “Patti LaBelle and Friends — Home for the Holidays” will provide an uplifting and inspirational soundtrack as you wrap those gifts, put the finishing touches on those tasty treats, or peacefully contemplate the reason for the season.
