Lunenburg Locks Up Spot in Tournament

LUNENBURG — Declan Fitzpatrick recorded five goals and two assists as the Lunenburg boys’ lacrosse team locked up a spot in the district tournament with Friday’s 12-5 win over visiting Oakmont Regional.

Donovan Powell added three goals and a pair of assists, and Ethan Whipple chipped in with two scores for the Blue Knights (9-4), who will next host St. Peter-Marian on Monday.

Girls’ lacrosse

LEOMINSTER 17, Hudson 7 — Lauren Caponi finished with four goals and one assist, and teammates Emily Ayles and Eliza Howlett each recorded a hat trick for Leominster. Natalie Petersen scored four goals for Hudson.

Boys’ track

MONTY TECH TOPS PARKER CHARTER — Conor Dandy led the way for Monty Tech in Thursday’s victory over Parker Charter, winning the long jump, triple jump, 800 meters and 100-meter dash. Other event winners for the Bulldogs (4-4) included Chad Brouillet (200, discus), Myles Cronin (javelin), Ethan Stebbins (mile), Alex McIntosh (400), and Dan LeCain (shot put).

Girls’ track

FITCHBURG PLACES FIFTH — Leading the way for Fitchburg High at Wednesday’s Mid-Wach B league meet was junior Wonoula Ashaju, who won the triple jump (36 feet, 10 inches), took third in the 100-meter dash ( 13.12 seconds), finished fourth in the long jump (16-8.25) and was fifth in the 400 (1:04.15). Senior Emerson Scott placed second in the 400 hurdles, fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.35) and eighth in the triple jump.

Also for Fitchburg, sophomore Olamide Bamgbose finished second in the long jump (17 feet), classmate Madelyne Magliore took third in the discus (82-10) and sophomore Rachel Romero took sixth in the javelin (77-4) and 13th in the discus (60-4).

In the relays, Fitchburg’s 4x100 (Rachel Romero, Alyvia Smith, Annaka Gendron, Olamide Bamgbose) placed fourth in 53.98 seconds and the 4x400 (Annak Gendron, Aria DiCato, Nayeli Plaza, Lina Kherallah) finished fifth in 5:11.28.

Rounding out the top efforts on the day for Fitchburg were Alyvia Smith (7th, 100 meters, 14.01), Nayeli Plaza (9th, 800, 3:02.82), Lina Kherallah (10th, 100 hurdles, 19.08; 12th, triple jump 28-4), Aria DiCato (11th, 100 hurdles, 19.41), Ashley Rodriguez (14th, discus, 58-5), Madelyne Magliore (14th, javelin, 59-7), Stephanie Saaverda (14th, shot put, 17-11.5; 15th, javelin, 58-7) and Shailyn Preville (15th, shot put, 17 feet).
