Rhode Island man convicted of Massachusetts slaying
FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A Rhode Island man has been convicted of killing another man in Fall River in an apparent dispute over the victim’s sister and girlfriend.
William Tate, of East Providence, was convicted Thursday in Fall River Superior Court of second-degree murder in the January 2014 shooting of David Rodriguez.
The Herald News (http://bit.ly/1V1M3QP ) reports that the 36-year-old Tate shot and killed the 26-year-old Rodriguez outside the Ship’s Cove apartment complex.
Prosecutors say Rodriguez was upset that Tate was trying to start a relationship with his younger sister. Witnesses also told investigators that Tate had once dated Rodriguez’s girlfriend, and Rodriguez feared Tate was trying to rekindle the relationship.
Tate maintained that he thought Rodriguez had a gun and shot in self-defense.
Sentencing was scheduled for May 25.
