Betty J. Syverson -- Wanamingo

Betty J. Syverson, age 87, of Wanamingo, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Burial will be in Lands Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty Jean Schleeter was born on Sept. 29, 1931, in Mantorville, to Henry and Edna (Blatti) Schleeter. She grew up in Mantorville and graduated from Mantorville High School in 1949.

On June 5, 1949, she married Charles W. Syverson. They lived and farmed south of Wanamingo, where they raised their four children. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a farm homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, making lefse, sewing, traveling, dancing, playing solitaire, fishing and eating out. Betty was a member of Lands Lutheran Church.


Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles; children, Gary Syverson of Minneapolis, Marlys Syverson of Shakopee, Wayne Syverson of Wanamingo, and Mardell (Jim) Way of Kenyon; grandchildren, Mike Way of Mankato, and Alyssa (Shawn) Dirkes of Moorhead; great-grandson, Sawyer Dirkes; sister-in-law, Lucille Ronningen of Wanamingo; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Edna; three brothers and their wives, Robert (Joyce) Schleeter, Henry (Sally) Schleeter Jr. and Glenn (Margaret) Schleeter; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Ronningen.

Memorials are suggested to Lands Lutheran Church.
