Former Deputy Prime Minister Dies
RANGOON, Burma (AP) _ U Kyaw Nyein, who was deputy prime minister in the civilian government of U Nu, died here Sunday after a long illness. He was 72.
U Kyaw Nyein also had served as Burma’s home minister, industry minister and foreign minister. He successfully negotiated and signed with Japan in 1955 an agreement for $200 million in World War II reparations for Burma.
U Ne Win, chairman of the governing Burma Socialist Program Party and Burma’s leader since he led a coup in 1962, visited the funeral home to offer condolences to U Kyaw Nyein’s family.
