Special election set for Hartford state rep
HARTFORD — A special election to fill the seat vacated by Hartford Democrat state Rep. Angel Arce will take place on June 4, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone elected to the 4th House district spot would have to seek re-election in November.
Arce resigned at the end of March, weeks after the Hartford Courant reported that Arce in 2015 sent overly affectionate Facebook messages to a girl who was 16 years old at the time.
His resignation reduced the Democratic majority in the 151-member House to 79. Republicans hold 71 seats.
Two consecutive Democrats held Arce’s seat before he was elected in 2012.
