Fans in Chapel Hill celebrate UNC win over Oregon
More than 3,000 people packed the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill Saturday to watch the Tar Heels take on Oregon. After an intense game and a close finish, UNC proved to be victorious.
The Tar Heels beat the Ducks 77-76 and will play in the National Championship game in Glendale, Az., on Monday night.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” said Daniel Sheitman. “I mean even right here, so far from Phoenix, we have so much passion for Carolina basketball here, it’s just unbelievavble.”
In the Dean Dome, the game was played on big screens and cheerleaders helped get the crowd amped.
“I was just trying to hold on,” said Luke Wilson. “I was sitting down. I couldn’t even stand up.”
Immediately following the win, fans flooded Franklin Street to celebrate.
