CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) _ Kevin Turner scored 15 points as Illinois defeated Chicago State 94-57 Wednesday night.

The Illini (7-2) never had much to fear from the Cougars (0-6), who haven’t won a road game since the last game of the 1994-95 season.

The closest Chicago State came in the second half was 23 points, 52-29, on a 3-pointer by Kory Billups with 16:47 to go. But the Cougars suffered from 37 percent field-goal shooting and 52 percent free-throw shooting.

Illinois, meanwhile, had nearly as many rebounds _ 54 _ as the Cougars had points, and shot 49 percent from the floor and 44 percent from beyond the arc. The Illini led by as many as 38, 82-44, with Jerry Gee’s basket with 5:37 to go.

Kiwane Garris added 14 points and 8 assists for the Illini, who had six players in double figures. Brian Johnson and Victor Chukwudebe each had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Rahsaan Mitchell led Chicago State with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Billups added 13 points.

The Illini led 50-26 at the half after leading by as many as 30 points, 50-20, when Garris hit a basket with 1:50 left in the half. The Cougars then went on a 6-0 run capped by a basket by Sonny Walker to narrow the gap to 24 points.
