STAMFORD — Stamford Health’s Breast Center has been granted a three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

In 2009, Stamford Hospital was the first in the nation to be accredited by the NAPBC, and was reaccredited in 2012 and 2015.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is given to centers that have voluntarily committed to providing a high level of breast care and undergoing a rigorous evaluation process and review their performance.

During the survey process, the Breast Center demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating patients who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. These standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.
