Lackawanna Count Man Sentenced For Check Fraud
A Lackawanna County man was sentenced to 21 months in prison for stolen mail and bank fraud.
Brandon L. Heaton, 35, Clarks Summit, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge A. Richard Caputo.
According to U.S. Attorney David J. Freed, Heaton pleaded guilty to stealing mailed checks from mailboxes, forging and depositing the checks and withdrawing the money from his accounts between Sept. 6 and Sept. 17, 2017, a news release said.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley was the prosecutor.
In addition to jail time, Caputo ordered Heaton to pay nearly $15,000 in restitution.
