SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Peabody man has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to a series of meat and seafood thefts from North Shore supermarkets.

Ronald Pretola pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Salem District Court to stealing a beef roast from a Middleton Market Basket in January, and for trying to steal a cartload of groceries from a Beverly Stop & Shop in March.

The Salem News ( ) reports that the sentence he received Wednesday will be served at the same time as a sentence handed down in Newburyport District Court last week for stealing cans of lobster meat from a Newburyport Market Basket on two occasions in March.

Prosecutors say the 50-year-old Pretola has prior convictions for similar thefts in 2004, 2011 and last year.
