Brewers Name Gausen Vice President

October 30, 1998

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday the promotion of Tom Gausden to vice president and general counsel of the team.

Gausden, 46, has been the club’s vice president for human resources and administration since 1995.

His new appointment was announced by Wendy Selig-Prieb, who preceded him in those positions and is now the Brewers’ president and chief executive officer.

She took over those positions from her father, Bud Selig, who was named commissioner of baseball this summer.

Gausden joined the team in 1991 and previously served as director of player negotiations and director of human resources.

Under his new title, he will oversee all club legal matters. He will remain responsible for player contract negotiations and salary arbitration cases as well as direction of the club’s human resources department.

In another move, the Brewers said they had signed right-handed pitcher David Weathers to a one-year contract.

Weathers, 29, was claimed off waivers last June from the Cincinnati Reds and finished the season with a 6-5 record and 4.91 earned run average.

In his major league career, he has a 24-32 record and 5.51 ERA since 1991. He has previously played with the Florida Marlins, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees

The Brewers said they now have 12 players under contract for next season.
