Jail inmate charged with attacking nurse in Beaver Dam hospital room

JUNEAU – A 22-year-old man, housed at Dodge County Jail, faces felony charges after he allegedly attacked a nurse in a bathroom at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Aleksei Kaverin is charged with false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He could face up to six years and 90 days in prison and $11,000 fine if convicted of both charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Beaver Dam Police responded to Beaver Dam Community Hospital, 707 S. University Ave., March 9 to back up Dodge County Sheriff Office deputies who reported an inmate being combative.

When Beaver Dam Police arrived, they found Kaverin in restraints and the deputies in control of him. According to the criminal complaint, Kaverin told officers he was sorry he had tried to rape and kill a nurse in a room bathroom in the intensive care unit. Kaverin asked to be taken to another jail outside of Dodge County.

The nurse told officers, that she was assisting with caring for Kaverin in the bathroom, when he jumped up and slammed shut the door. The nurse ran to the door and immediately struggled with Kaverin over the lock on the door. The deputies were able to get into the bathroom in seconds and gained control over Kaverin.

According to the criminal complaint, the deputies reported that Kaverin has had mental health issues while in the jail.

Kaverin has an initial hearing May 13.
