Prison inmate charged with killing Sudanese immigrant
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A prison inmate has been charged with fatally shooting a Sudanese immigrant in 2014 at a Kansas City apartment.
Thirty-year-old Kyle Whitley was charged Monday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the killing of 38-year-old Alfadil Sabil, who immigrated to the U.S. five years before his death. The Kansas City Star reports that he and the suspect were seen on surveillance footage fighting earlier that day outside of the building.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office said in a statement Monday that a witness identified the suspect on the video as Whitley.
Department of Corrections records show that Whitley is serving eight years for domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with a motor vehicle. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.
