Southern California city finds cause of discolored tap water

December 3, 2019

POWAY, Calif. (AP) — The Southern California city of Poway has figured out the cause of discolored tap water that triggered a boil-water advisory.

The city of 50,000 says on its website that it’s believed a storm drain backed up into a water treatment facility’s reservoir during rain last week.

The city is working to prevent a similar occurrence and is draining a portion of the reservoir to isolate and disinfect the affected area.

The city will continue to distribute bottled water to residents at two locations Tuesday.

Poway residents first reported the discolored tap water on Friday.

The city says test found the water to be within standards but decided to issue a boil-water advisory as a precautionary measure.
