Edwardsville Proposed 2019 Budget Includes No Property Tax Increase

November 14, 2018

EDWARDSVILLE — Edwardsville’s proposed budget for 2019 includes no property tax increase and includes large increases in grants the borough is expecting. The property tax rate will remain at 3.95 mills, which is $395 for a $100,000 property. Council approved the first reading of the budget at a Nov. 8 meeting. The budget also includes $690,000 in community development grants and $500,000 in grants from Luzerne County’s Local Share Account, which is funded by revenue generated by the state’s casinos, including Mohegan Sun Pocono. Those grants will go toward infrastructure improvements in the borough, including road paving, sidewalk repair, sewer upgrades and other work. “It’s a tight budget but positive. We’re going to have a busy spring with these projects,” said council president David Stochla. — BILL WELLOCK
