Slicers baseball falls at Pirates

La Porte’s baseball team lost 4-2 at Merrillville on Tuesday. Matt Parrette hit an RBI triple for the Slicers (1-2, 0-1 Duneland Athletic Conference), and Josh Trim, Jake Spence, Conner Stalbaum, Brock Lipscomb, Grant Collins, and Dave Applegarth each had one hit. Mason Schroeder took the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits, striking out five. The Pirates tallied three runs in the third inning.

La Porte reschedules baseball games

La Porte’s varsity baseball game at Logansport postponed March 30 will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday. The JV will travel to Logansport to play single games with Logansport and Lafayette Jeff starting at 10 a.m.

Cougars softball smashes LaVille

Karissa Gilpin struck out all six hitters she faced in two innings of work and then hit two home runs, including a grand slam in an 11-run second inning, to help the Cougars roll in an 18-0 win over LaVille on Tuesday. Amanda Trojanowski also homered for the Cougars.

Cougars baseball thumps Boone

New Prairie’s baseball team drubbed Boone Grove 15-1 in five innings on the road on Monday. Gavin Kelly went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and six RBIs for the Cougars (3-0), who scored eight runs in the second inning. Roman Kuntz finished 3-of-4 with a triple, a home run and five RBIs. Frank Turley and Hunter Robinson each went 2-for-3 and Turley had an RBI. Robinson got his second win, allowing one run on one hit. He had seven strikeouts and three walks in five innings. New Prairie had 13 hits. It has scored 45 runs in three games.

Slicer Health Clinic offers sports physicals

The Slicer Health Clinic of La Porte Physician Network is working with your child’s school to perform sports physicals for the upcoming school year in the months of April and May. All students participating in a sport during summer or the upcoming school year will need a sports physical done after April 1. These sports physicals will be performed Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. by appointment at the Slicer Health Clinic, located at La Porte High School, 602 F. Street La Porte, IN. The fee for your child’s sports physical is $20. If you would like your child to get a sports physical, the registration forms and physical forms can be downloaded from http://www.lpcsc.k12.in.us/health_clinic, or obtained from your child’s school. Bring these two forms to your child’s appointment. If your child is a high school student, you are not required to be present for the exam if consent and registration packets are filled out completely. If you wish to be present during your child’s exam, you may come to the clinic for their appointment time. If you have any questions about the physicals or forms, call Elisa Bergquist at 219-324-1377 from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

La Porte JV baseball blanks foe

La Porte’s JV baseball team shut out Merrillville 7-0 on Tuesday on the road. The Slicers’ Carson Stalbaum went 3-for-4, and Jack McGuire and Jacob Pinkerton both had multiple hits. Camrin Worthington started and earned his second win of the season, giving up no runs on two hits. He had nine strikeouts and four walks. Riley Attar threw one inning and fanned a pair in his first prep action.

Slicers JV softball rolls

La Porte’s JV softball team cruised 19-0 in five innings over Merrillville on Tuesday. The Slicers’ Abby Hall went 4-for-4, and Jill Maudlin, Kiera King, Mia Swanson, and Lilly Alberts all went 3-of-3. Regan Hague pitched the first three innings with five strikeouts and didn’t allow a base runner. King came in in relief and struck out two.

Blazers girls tennis match moved again

Marquette’s girls tennis match at Andrean originally scheduled for Tuesday and moved to Friday has now been moved to April 26 at 4:30 p.m.
