KSP investigates accidental shooting involving children

BLAINE, Ky. — The Ashland Post of the Kentucky State Police is investigating an accidental shooting in which two children were injured after an unsecured pistol went off in their home, according to a release from KSP.

The incident occurred on Ramey Branch Road in Blaine, Lawrence County.

According to the release, both children, ages 4 and 11, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make full recoveries. The children were lying in their parents’ bed watching television when one of them obtained or disturbed a .22 caliber target pistol that had not been properly secured by the mother. No criminal charges have been filed.

The Huntington Police Department listed 17 new incident reports in the 24-hour period ending at 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the printout released by the department. However, the individual police reports were not made available, so these are the only known details:

Paraphernalia, 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, 700 block of 6th Avenue.

Overdose, 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, 600 block of 10th Street.

Paraphernalia, 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, 15th Street and 6 l/i Alley.

Improper registration, vehicle security, driver or motorcycle license required, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Norway Avenue and Grace Street.

Burglary, entry of dwelling or outhouse, 9 a.m. Tuesday, unit block of Central Court.

Warrant service/execution, 5:49 p.m. Tuesday, 2600 block of 10th Avenue.

Petit larceny, 6 a.m. Friday, 2300 block of Johnstown Road.

Breaking and entering auto, 9 p.m. Monday, 1300 block of 3rd Avenue.

Petit larceny, 8:29 a.m. Tuesday, 2400 block of 3rd Avenue.

Malicious or unlawful assault, 11 a.m. Tuesday, 23rd Street and 9th Avenue.

Petit larceny, 9:30 a.m. Sunday, 800 block of Norway Avenue.

Breaking and entering, grand larceny, destruction of property — misdemeanor, 8 a.m. Tuesday, 500 block of Richmond Street.

Deceased person, 11 p.m. Monday, 3600 block of Hughes Street.

Shoplifting — first and second offense, fleeing from officer, no vehicle, 4:14 a.m. Tuesday, 800 block of 8th Street.

Burglary, entry of dwelling or outhouse, warrant service/execution, 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, 500 block of 9th Street.

Domestic battery, destruction of property — misdemeanor, 11:41 p.m. Monday, 400 block of New York Street.

The following Information was provided by booking records kept at Western Regional Jail:

Perdita Fitisemanu-Harless, 37, was jailed at 4 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities in Cabell County arrested her on an active warrant. Bond was not set.
